It is an interesting conundrum that organic foods cost more money, but at the same time, they actually save you money. Allow me to explain. When the USDA organic standards were first established in 2002, many thought they were a lot of ado about nothing--that organic foods were really not any healthier than any other foods--they just cost more! So one group did a study, in which they determined the vitamin, mineral, and protein levels in organically grown crops vs conventionally grown crops. Guess what they found? Organic crops were actually significantly higher in all three of those than their conventionally grown counterparts. The "why" behind that is enough for another whole article, but suffice it to say that while conventional nitrogen fertilizers help crops grow big and fast, they do not put the nutrients back into the soil that help make the crops more nutritious for us to consume.

Obviously, if you've shopped for organic foods, you know that overall, they do come with a higher price tag. But the really interesting thing that we've noticed, is that when people begin to eat organic foods, they lose their food "cravings" and those constant feelings of hunger, and they actually begin to eat LESS!
